The premises of a star hotel on the outskirts of the city had doubled up as a wedding hall, as the team of Yakkai Thiri shot two interesting wedding sequences recently there. Our curiosity was piqued when we found there were two brides —
Janani and
Sonakshi Singh Rawat, but just one groom — Bharath! Seasoned actors like Pratap Pothen and
Pandiarajan were also part of the shoot, as were Bagavathy Perumal and Gnanasambandam, among the rest of the cast.
We caught hold of director
Bharath Mohan during the break, and while he didn’t reveal much about the plot, he said, “Yakkai Thiri is my second film after Igloo. It’s a breezy entertainer, and it is lovely to have such jovial actors on set. This sequence involves most of the cast, and there’s quite a bit of drama, too.” Here’s what the rest of the team had to say…
I’m thrilled to be doing a love story after a long time: BharathOn working in the movie:
It was the script and the genre which attracted me. It’s been 11 years since I have done a romantic, breezy love story. I play an upper-middle-class paiyyan in the film, which revolves around the emotional dynamics between three characters. Everyone can relate to the content.
It’s great to work with a big crew:
To have experienced artistes like Pratap sir and Pandiarajan sir is a blessing. Bagavathy Perumal and
Sudha Chandran ma’am, among others, are also playing pivotal characters. It’s good to work again with Janani — she’s a simple person who loves being part of good projects. Sonakshi is from Mumbai and she is a fabulous person to work with.
We have been taking precautions while shooting: Janani
On teaming up with Bharath again:
I play Bharath’s love interest in the movie — she’s a brave girl who faces a lot of ups and downs in life with a strong resolve. I am happy I got to work with Bharath again after six years. I was a little afraid to dance with him though (laughs). Working with seniors like Pratap sir, Pandiarajan sir and Gnanasambandam was a good experience. Bagavathi Perumal has a very funny role. It is good to get dressed up for a wedding sequence; there’s a song, too and it’s a beautiful composition by
Arrol Corelli.
On shooting after the lockdown:
It was scary to shoot during the pandemic. But since it is a wedding sequence, we needed a crowd as well. We have been doing tests and taking precautions. Life has to go on, and I’m happy that we are able to shoot in a full-fledged manner now.
The crew ensured that I never felt like a debutante: Sonakshi Singh Rawat
On director Bharath:
This is my first film in Tamil, and I had a lot of fun working in the movie. I don’t know the language, but the director, who is also the writer of the film, was quite helpful. My character has a lot of layers and emotions and he helped me walk through it.
On actor Bharath:
My co-star Bharath is a sweet person – he, along with others, ensured that I never felt like a debutante on set.
It feels good to land a good role: Pratap PothenThough I don’t do a lot of Tamil films, it’s good to land good roles when I sign a movie here. I play a man who has multiple affairs. In this sequence, I’m attending my daughter’s wedding with my second wife!
This wedding sequence is quite serious: PandiarajanI play Bharath’s boss in the film, someone who advises him and ensures that his decisions in life are right. The movie is a family-based love story. We are shooting two wedding sequences – one wedding happens in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Two weddings on the same day sound funny, but it’s a serious sequence.
For a change, I play a serious dad in this film: GnanasambandamUsually, I play the role of a fun-loving father to either the hero or the heroine. But in this one, I play a serious dad. It’s great to work with a team that’s so full of energy. I’m also happy to be sharing screen space with my friend, Pandiarajan, after a long time.
